A. Justin Lum, a fourth generation Chinese American, has practiced law for over 20 years since obtaining his J.D. in 1992. At first, he worked with his father, Albert C. Lum, until 1997 when he started his own practice. In 2011, he rejoined his father to form Lum Law Group, and father and son have been partners ever since.
In working with Albert Lum senior, A. Justin Lum has assisted many clients in obtaining their visas and/or adjusting their status to permanent residents in the United States. He has also helped numerous out of status clients to successful conclusions to their immigration court proceedings. He has appeared at a number of interviews for adjustment of status (obtaining permanent residence), appeared at asylum interviews, appeared in immigration court, prepared briefs before the Board of Immigration Appeals, and prepared and argued petitions for review before the United States 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
He has protected many clients and their intellectual property through a combination of his trademark registration and intellectual property litigation practice. A. Justin Lum has appeared in district court, and has appeared before the United States International Trade Commission handling section 337 investigations, as well as filed and defended trademark opposition and cancellation claims before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
A. Justin Lum has been practicing law since 1993 (California State Bar 164882), after graduating from University of California, Davis King Hall School of Law in 1992. Prior to law studies, A. Justin Lum majored in Biochemistry and Economics, graduating from University of California, Berkeley in 1987.
Justin Lum obtained his United States Patent and Trademark Office Patent Practitioner license in 1998 (#41,957).

Justin Lum, a fourth generation Chinese-American, attended the University of California at Berkeley as an undergraduate, graduating with Bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry and Economics. He attended the Beijing Language Institute and Beijing University for a year and a half before attending the University of California at Davis King Hall School of Law, obtaining his JD in 1992. He began practicing in 1993, first with his father, Albert C. Lum, until 1997, then on his own until 2011, when he joined with Albert C. Lum to form Lum Law Group. Father and son have been partners since 2011 to the present.
Justin Lum has also been involved in the community. He has been a past board member and President of SCCLA, as its 26th president in 2001. He has been involved in the California State Bar Resolutions Committee and involved in the Asian Business League of Southern California promoting Asian businesses in southern California. He has also been a member of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association, and the American Intellectual Property Lawyer’s Association.
Justin Lum has also been active in promoting Chinese interest in the community, and active in local politics. He is a supporter of Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congressman Ted Lieu, California Treasurer John Chiang, and State Assemblyman Ed Chau. He most recently co-hosted a fundraiser in June of this year (2016) for Treasurer John Chiang for Chiang’s campaign for California Governor in 2018.
